Textiles do yeoman’s work in fundraising and advertising for so many organizations, including independent bands, retailers, and nonprofits. I find it especially gratifying to create lively wearables that help fans share their enthusiasm with the world.
I adore spot work. There’s something about breezy little self-contained grace notes that lends buoyancy to any printed or digital space. They’re complete work with the spirit of a doodle, and they can zhuzh up anything. I always want to do more of them.
When you need to make a splash, it’s tough to beat a mural. I can help you create a design that works for your space, whether that’s big and bold for your retail or office space, or a softer touch for your home. A variety of life spans and installation options for these works are available.
I also have a special place in my heart for paper backdrops. They’re surprisingly durable but can be uninstalled in seconds. These great big pieces of paper are perfect for creating your very own storybook worlds. They're fabulous as a low-commitment set for a commercial shoot, or just for fun.
Posters are an utter joy to make and demand razzle-dazzle to snag attention. They’re inherently a little decadent and fun. Please always call me for poster work.
The ALLOWANCE series is part of my ongoing love affair with the power of invitation, with finding out what happens when you ask people to unleash themselves. When you commit in advance to caring a whole bunch about what someone makes.
I worked with six designers in Knoxville over the course of 2022 for this series of self-portraits. I gave each designer creative freedom to make a garment specifically for me to wear. Once I had their pieces, I designed and painted eight-foot-square paper backdrops in response to their work and posed for the portrait. I organized and installed a showing at The Boocherie for the month of October, 2022.
I maintain a deep fondness for magazine, podcast and book covers, one that took root early in my life. It’s a special challenge to sum up sprawling works in a single cover image that needs to grab eyes, and also convince those eyes to stick around for a while. These kinds of tough distillations are at the heart of illustration work, and they’re still the tasks that thrill me the most.
If you’d like a little handmade feel added to your branding, I’m always game to chat about that.
