10’x15’, 2019
My approach to this mural—located in a child-free residence—involved creating a design that would provide the drama and excitement of a mural without adding overwhelming visual noise or clutter to a relatively narrow room that’s relied upon to host a variety of daily living activities. This was achieved with a rich background color and a bold, yet fine-lined, imperfectly symmetric design.
While primarily located on a single wall, the mural wraps around to a small adjoining wall facing the entrance. I used this placement to take advantage of the site-specific nature of murals, turning an awkward bit of construction into an interesting contour that not only leads visitors into the next room upon entry, but also makes the design feel of a piece with the building rather than confined to a single plane.
